vivo will launch its new generation of large foldable screen flagship, the vivo X Fold6, this month. This model will debut vivo’s newly developed parallel mode function, enabling four uses on one screen. Up to four independent apps can run on a single large screen at the same time, completely breaking the multitasking limit of traditional foldable screens.

vivo product manager Han Boxiao specifically introduced the core logic of this feature. In the parallel mode of vivo X Fold6, all open application windows are displayed flat, there are no secondary windows that are in the background or dormant, and all four applications are the main ones that can be directly operated in the foreground.

Users can simultaneously open four different AI assistants on a large screen, allowing each to generate a proposal and put them together for a pitch. They can also use four apps to grab tickets or four shopping apps to compare prices of the same product in real time, resulting in a very intuitive improvement in efficiency.

Han Boxiao emphasized that achieving such a multitasking experience is far more difficult than outsiders imagine; it’s not as simple as just arranging four windows on the screen. These are four independent applications that can be operated simultaneously, all running smoothly in the foreground without any background pauses.

This capability requires a complete overhaul and optimization of the Android underlying framework, breaking free from the multitasking limitations inherent in the Android native framework. At the hardware level, chip-level scheduling optimizations also need to be implemented based on multitasking and AI computing power requirements.

Meeting the computing power demands of multiple apps rendering simultaneously, while also managing performance load and power consumption during concurrent application operation, presents a significant challenge to the underlying capabilities of the entire system. All R&D investment is ultimately aimed at creating mobile terminal products with the best AI experience.

Finally, let’s look at the core hardware configuration. The vivo X Fold6 features an 8.02-inch inner screen and a 6.51-inch outer screen. It is powered by the Dimensity 9500 flagship chip and has a rear triple camera setup with a 200-megapixel Zeiss lens.

Previously, many foldable screens could only achieve split-screen dual-use in multitasking. This time, vivo has directly increased the number of applications to four. For business users who often need to process multiple tasks in parallel, the practical value of this model will far exceed that of ordinary flagship phones.
