Google To Show Battery Health Percentage In Android Just Like Apple

As Android smartphones continue to receive longer software update support, users are keeping their devices for extended periods. However, the battery is often the first component to show signs of aging, and monitoring its health on Android has been challenging. Google is addressing this issue in Android 14 by introducing a new framework to track long-term battery statistics, including charge cycles and manufacturing dates.

In December 2023, Google added a ‘Battery Information’ page to Pixel smartphones running Android 14, accessible via Settings » About phone » Battery information. This page, as reported by Android Authority and Mishaal Rahman, displays the battery’s manufacturing date and charge cycle count.

With the Android 14 QPR2 Beta 2 update, Google introduced the ability to view the estimated battery health percentage on Pixel devices. This feature shows the battery’s current full charge capacity compared to its original capacity.

For instance, if a phone’s original battery capacity is 5,000mAh and it’s currently at 90%, it can only charge up to 4,500mAh. While the actual charge capacity isn’t displayed yet, Google is testing this feature, and it might be included in the Android 15 update.

Samsung is also expected to incorporate similar battery health information in its Galaxy devices with the Android 15-based One UI 7.0 update. The new battery health page will display the estimated percentage of charge the battery can currently hold compared to its original capacity. It will also inform users about the battery’s recalibration process, which may take a few weeks, and notify them when it’s time to replace the battery.

Additionally, Google plans to provide more detailed battery information in Android, including the battery’s serial number and part status. The status could indicate whether the battery is original, replaced, or unsupported, helping users understand the condition and history of their device’s battery. These features are expected to be part of Android 15, set to be announced next year.
