Apple Pushes iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2 public beta with More Ai Capabilities

Apple is anticipated to release the finalized versions of iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2 in early December. Leading up to this, the company has made the first public beta versions available for both operating systems. This means that anyone with an iPhone or iPad can now join the Apple Beta Program and download the 18.2 beta update. However, it’s worth noting that, as with any beta release, users may encounter bugs and occasional glitches during use.

The iOS 18.2 update is packed with new Apple Intelligence features, offering users innovative ways to interact with their devices. A key addition is Image Playground — a standalone app that allows users to create images directly from text prompts. This functionality is deeply integrated within the Messages, Notes, and Freeform apps, so users can generate images in various contexts, enhancing communication and creativity.

Another exciting feature in this update is Genmoji, derived from “generative AI” and “moji” (referring to emoji or personalized digital avatars). With Genmoji, users can create custom avatars based on text prompts. This tool enables users to design Genmojis that resemble themselves, friends, family members, or others, making interactions more expressive and personalized.

A notable upgrade for Siri in iOS 18.2 is the integration with ChatGPT, OpenAI’s powerful conversational AI. When Siri doesn’t have an answer to a question, it can now ask for user permission to forward the query to ChatGPT, which will then provide a more comprehensive response. Importantly, users don’t need to have a ChatGPT account to access this feature, making it seamlessly accessible.

For users of the latest iPhone 16 models, Visual Intelligence offers an innovative way to understand the surroundings. By simply opening the camera app and pointing it at various objects or scenes, users can access relevant information about what’s in view. Visual Intelligence can read text out loud, recognize phone numbers and addresses for quick addition to Contacts, copy and summarize text, and more, making it a versatile tool for on-the-go insights.

The Apple Intelligence feature now supports regional English dialects in countries such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, Ireland, and the UK. This regional support ensures that users in these areas have a more natural and localized experience with Apple’s AI-driven tools. It’s worth mentioning that some features, like Genmoji, Image Playground, and Image Wand — a tool that transforms sketches into images — require users to join a waiting list to gain access, indicating Apple’s careful rollout of these capabilities.
