Samsung has officially released the Android 14 update for the Galaxy S21 series in the United States. This major update, which includes the latest One UI 6.0, is currently being rolled out to devices on Verizon’s network and is expected to become widely available to all users soon. Samsung has already successfully launched Android 14 and One UI 6.0 for the Galaxy S21 series in various international markets.
The journey of Android 14 on Samsung devices began in late October, with a more comprehensive rollout commencing in mid-November. The Galaxy S21 series, Samsung’s flagship lineup from 2021, was among the early recipients of this update, initially in European regions. The rollout then extended to other markets, including Africa and Asia, and has now reached the United States.
The US versions of the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra are receiving the update, with Verizon’s website listing the build number as G99*USQU9FWK5. This update also includes the November 2023 security patch, which addresses 65 vulnerabilities. Users with carrier-locked units on networks other than Verizon should expect the same build number, while it may vary for unlocked devices.
The Android 14 update brings a host of new features and enhancements to the Galaxy S21 series. Users can look forward to new camera features, more robust editing tools, a redesigned system UI, and improved animations. The update is not just about aesthetic improvements; it also includes significant security updates with the November 2023 security patch.
Galaxy S21 users in the US can expect to receive the update notification soon. Alternatively, they can manually check for the update through the Settings app by navigating to Software update > Download and Install. It’s important to note that OTA (over-the-air) updates are released in batches, so availability may vary. The update is expected to be sizeable, spanning multiple gigabytes (GB).
With the Galaxy S21 series originally launched with Android 11 in January 2021, the Android 14 update marks the third major OS update for these devices. It’s uncertain whether the series will receive Android 15, as Samsung’s current software policy guarantees four generations of Android updates and five years of security updates. However, even if the Galaxy S21 series does not receive Android 15, it might still get the One UI 6.1 update in 2024.
