Lei Jun’s hands-on experience with the Xiaomi 18 Fold:

Fast Technology reported that Xiaomi founder Lei Jun showcased the upcoming mid-folding flagship Xiaomi 18 Fold in a video. The phone features a horizontal camera module design and its main color is named “Nishino Red.” The new product will be officially unveiled on September 7th.

Lei Jun explained that the Xiaomi 18 Fold’s inner and outer screens use a standard 2:1 paper ratio, which is just right. When used for reading, it feels as natural as turning the pages of a physical book; when used for watching movies, the screen unfolds without cropping; and when reading documents for office work, there is no need to zoom or adjust, and the content is clear at a glance.

As Xiaomi Group President Lu Weibing said, the Xiaomi 18 Fold combines a lightweight flagship with a stunning large screen, completely resolving the long-standing contradiction between portability and user experience in traditional large folding phones.

In terms of core configuration, the Xiaomi 18 Fold features a 5.38-inch external screen and a 7.58-inch internal screen, and is the first to be equipped with the Xuanjie O3 chip. In GeekBench 6 testing, the Xuanjie O3 achieved a multi-core score of 15221, a significant improvement of 60% compared to its predecessor. Regarding energy efficiency, the Xuanjie O3 continues its excellent energy efficiency performance in the low-to-medium load range, further reducing power consumption by 25% in everyday use scenarios.

In addition, the Xiaomi 18 Fold is the first to feature the new generation Xiaomi Surge OS 4 and Xiaomi MiMo large-scale on-device model, and is equipped with a new generation of keel hinge, pushing the flatness and reliability of the whole device to a new level.

Lu Weibing emphasized that the Xiaomi 18 Fold is not only a form factor supplement to the number series, but also the highest-positioned and most cutting-edge flagship in the entire series. It is no longer a novelty for a select few, but a complete experience that rivals, and even surpasses, the number flagship in some aspects.
