Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 exposed: CPU single-core score close to 4000, putting pressure on Apple A19

blogger Digital Chat Station revealed that Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 supports the SME instruction set and is manufactured based on TSMC’s third-generation 3nm process N3P. The frequency is set very high, and the Geekbench 6 single-core score is heading towards 4000, putting pressure on Apple.

It is reported that the full name of SME is “Scalable MultiMedia Extensions”. The SME instruction set is part of the Arm64 architecture. By providing more vector registers and larger vector lengths, the processor can handle multimedia and graphics-related computing tasks more efficiently.

The SME instruction set is particularly suitable for application scenarios that require a large number of vector operations, as follows:

Multimedia processing: including video encoding, decoding, image processing, etc.;

Graphics rendering: including 3D graphics rendering, game development, etc.;

Scientific computing: including large-scale numerical simulation, data analysis, etc.

In addition, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chip will continue to use the cluster design of the first-generation CPU, still with a configuration of 2P (super core) + 6E (large core), but the main frequency will be increased again and the performance will reach new highs.

It is known that the CPU main frequency of Snapdragon 8 Elite reaches up to 4.32GHz, its single-core score exceeds 3200 points, and its multi-core score exceeds 10000 points. The single-core score of A18 Pro is about 3500 points, and the multi-core score is about 9300 points.
