Qualcomm To Add New Snapdragon 8 Series Which Clocks Between 8 Gen 2 and 8 Gen 3

Qualcomm is set to expand its Snapdragon 8 series lineup with a new chip, codenamed SM8635, as revealed by a well-known Chinese leaker on Weibo. This upcoming chip tweaked using TSMC’s 4nm process, features a Cortex-X4 super core with a CPU clock speed of 2.9GHz and integrates an Adreno 735 GPU with a frequency exceeding 900MHz, achieving an AnTuTu benchmark score of over 1.7 million.

In comparison, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 also includes a Cortex-X4 super core but operates at a higher CPU frequency of 3.3GHz, with an AnTuTu score surpassing 2 million. The SM8635 seems to be positioned as a slightly downclocked version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, offering performance that fits between the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Additionally, it has been hinted that Qualcomm will unveil two new chips in March, the 7675 and the aforementioned 8635, which may represent different frequency versions of the same chip. Both chips, internally referred to as “Cliffs,” will fully inherit the Snapdragon 8Gen3 architecture.

The Snapdragon processor codenamed SM7675, previously leaked by the digital chat station, also achieved a benchmark score of 170 million, branding it as a “mid-range performance killer.”

This upcoming release of mid-to-high-end processors in the first half of the year is highly anticipated, promising to offer consumers a wider range of choices and potentially delivering some surprises from the Snapdragon lineup.
