The world’s first 2nm chip! Samsung Exynos 2600 is reportedly progressing smoothly

Samsung Galaxy S25 series, which was recently launched, uses Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chips worldwide because Samsung’s own Exynos 2500 SoC has yield issues.

According to media reports, Samsung Electronics has invested a lot of resources in the next-generation flagship platform Exynos 2600 to ensure its on-time mass production.

The report pointed out that Exynos 2600 uses Samsung’s 2nm process, and the trial production yield is about 30%, which is higher than internal expectations. The company plans to further stabilize the mass production process of Exynos 2600 in the second half of the year, and start mass production in Q4. The Galaxy S26 series, which will be launched in January next year, will be the first to be equipped with it. If the plan is implemented smoothly, Exynos 2600 will be the industry’s first 2nm chip.

It is worth noting that Exynos 2600 uses Samsung’s first-generation 2nm process SF2. Compared with the second-generation 3GAP 3nm process, SF2 can reduce power consumption by 25% under the same computing frequency and complexity, and improve computing performance by 12% under the same power consumption and complexity, and reduce chip area by 5%.

In addition to SF2, Samsung has also planned multiple 2nm nodes, including SF2P, SF2X, SF2Z, SF2A, etc. Among them, SF2X and SF2Z can be used for high-performance computing and artificial intelligence applications, and SF2A can be used for automotive applications.

As a competitor of Samsung, TSMC also plans to produce 2nm process chips in 2025. However, the iPhone 17 series, which will be launched in the second half of the year, will not be able to use TSMC’s 2nm process. Apple will use 2nm chips on the iPhone 18 series at the earliest.
