Galaxy S24 FCC Certification Confirms Snapdragon 8 Gen3 In Flagships

The Samsung Galaxy S24 series, which includes the Galaxy S24, S24 Plus, and S24 Ultra, has recently been spotted in the FCC database, revealing significant details about these upcoming smartphones. This discovery has shed light on the chipset configurations for these models, clarifying some of the speculation surrounding them.

Snapdragon Chipset in Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus

The FCC filings indicate that certain models of the Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus will feature a Snapdragon chip. Specifically, the base Galaxy S24’s listing mentions the use of a Qualcomm modem and Qualcomm’s Smart Transmit power-saving technology. Similarly, the Galaxy S24 Plus’s filing also references a Qualcomm modem and Smart Transmit functionality, alongside a Samsung LSI chipset, likely related to connectivity or power management.

These details strongly suggest that at least some models of the Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus in the U.S. will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, as Samsung typically uses its own modems for Exynos chipsets.

Chipset Confusion and Rumors

There have been various rumors about the chipsets in the base and models of the Galaxy S24 series. Some reports claimed that these phones would exclusively use Exynos chips, while others suggested that only U.S. models would feature Snapdragon processors, with the rest of the world receiving Exynos variants. The recent FCC filings, however, indicate that U.S. models of the Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus will indeed have Snapdragon processors.

Galaxy S24 Ultra: Snapdragon Across the Globe

The consensus among sources is that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will be available globally with Snapdragon power. The Ultra’s FCC documents confirm the presence of a Qualcomm modem and Smart Transmit technology.

Additional Features Revealed

The Galaxy S24’s documentation points to features like Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 6E support, and reverse wireless charging, but no Ultra-Wideband (UWB) connectivity. The S24 Plus, however, includes all these features along with UWB support. The Galaxy S24 Ultra’s listing indicates reverse wireless charging, UWB support, and Wi-Fi 7 capabilities, though there’s no specific mention of its Bluetooth version.

S Pen for Galaxy S24 Ultra

An FCC listing for a new S Pen, closely related to the Galaxy S24 Ultra model number, suggests that the Ultra will continue to support the S Pen, a feature that has been a part of the Ultra line since 2021 and included a dedicated slot since 2022. Leaked renders of the Galaxy S24 Ultra also show an S Pen slot.

Launch Expectations

The Galaxy S24 series is expected to launch in mid-January, which would be an earlier release compared to the S23 range. This upcoming launch is highly anticipated, as it promises to bring a range of advanced features and capabilities to Samsung’s flagship smartphone lineup.
