Google Pixel 9 Series Expected to Gain AirDrop Compatibility Through Quick Share

Last November, the Pixel 10 series gained a feature that lets users share files directly with iPhones using Quick Share. Recent reports suggest that the company may soon make this feature available for the Pixel 9 lineup too.

A new report reveal that the most recent Android Canary build for the Pixel 9 series now contain extra system files that are required to make Quick Share work for transferring files between Android devices and iPhones.

However, the report notes that these additional system files were not included in the builds for the Pixel 9a or the older Pixel 8 series. This suggest that Google has likely not yet begun testing Quick Share on these models means that owners of these phones may have to wait for a future update before the feature becomes available.

During the announcement of Quick Share’s interoperability with Apple’s AirDrop, Google confirmed that the feature would eventually be made available on older Pixel phones and other Android devices. It’s reassuring to know that the company is following through on this promise and actively working to make Quick Share available on a wider range of devices in the near future.

The Quick Share feature might arrive for the Pixel 9 series as part of the Android 16 QPR3 build though it could also be included in later stable update. In the meantime, the Google Pixel 9 Pro is offered in multiple configuration to suit different users. The model with 128GB of storage and 16GB of RAM is priced at £499.95 or €561.99 while the higher end version with 256GB of storage and the same 16GB of RAM can be purchased for €635.99 or $540.00 depending on the region.
