Higher Pricing Expected for iPhone 17 Series

Analysts are predicting that Apple may raise the prices for its upcoming iPhone 17 lineup, slated for release in September 2025. According to Jong Wook Lee, a senior researcher at Samsung Securities, Apple had initially planned for price increases with the iPhone 16 series, but these adjustments never materialized. The absence of that hike has reportedly impacted Apple’s profit margins in recent quarters, making a price increase for the next series more likely.

Rumored Price Structure and Features

Early rumors reveal that pricing for the iPhone 17 series might undergo significant changes, particularly with the addition of a new model, the iPhone 17 Air. This ultra-slim device could actually become the most expensive in the lineup, despite sporting some less advanced specifications compared to the iPhone 17 Pro Max. For example, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to feature a single rear camera and rely on computational photography, while being powered by the A18 processor instead of the A18 Pro chip used in the Pro Max model.

Here’s a look at the current iPhone 16 pricing for reference:

  • iPhone 16 – $799
  • iPhone 16 Plus – $899
  • iPhone 16 Pro – $999
  • iPhone 16 Pro Max – $1,199

For the iPhone 17 series, pricing might shift as follows:

  • iPhone 17 – $899
  • iPhone 17 Air – $1,299
  • iPhone 17 Pro – $1,199
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max – $1,399 (starting at 500GB of storage)

If the rumors hold true, the iPhone 17 Air could be priced $100 higher than the iPhone 17 Pro Max unless adjustments are made to the Pro Max’s cost to restore its position as the top-tier iPhone model.

Potential Impact of Tariffs

An additional factor that could influence iPhone 17 pricing is the possibility of a 10% tariff on goods imported from China. This measure has been proposed by President-elect Donald Trump during his campaign and could be implemented via executive order as soon as he takes office. Since iPhones are largely manufactured in China, Apple would likely face increased shipping costs for units imported into the U.S.

The Cupertino-based company has two options when dealing with these tariffs—either absorb the additional expenses or pass them on to customers in the form of higher prices. If the iPhone 17 series does see a price increase, Apple could point to this potential tariff hike as a major contributing factor.

Final Thoughts

While details about the iPhone 17 line are still largely speculative, the indications of a price increase seem strong. Whether due to additional features like computational photography or external economic pressures like tariffs, buyers of the next-generation iPhones might need to prepare for higher price tags across the board. Apple has yet to confirm any pricing information, but September 2025 will bring full clarity when these devices are officially announced.
