Google abandons Samsung and Qualcomm baseband chips!

Google’s Pixel 10 series, which will be launched next year, is expected to abandon the use of Samsung and Qualcomm baseband chips and instead adopt MediaTek’s yet-to-be-released T900 baseband chip.

According to Android Authority, Google has evaluated all solutions, including Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X75 baseband chip, and finally chose MediaTek’s T900 baseband chip.

The MediaTek T900 is expected to outperform the previous generation T800, which was released in November 2022, with a peak downlink rate of 7.9Gbps and a peak uplink rate of 4.2Gbps.

Although the specific performance cannot be determined at present, the report says it is expected to improve the battery life and overheating problems of previous generations of Pixel phones.

Previously, the self-developed Tensor processors equipped in Google’s Pixel series were built in cooperation with Samsung and integrated with Samsung’s Exynos baseband chips.

The latest news shows that Google will launch the Tensor G5 processor in 2025, which will be built using TSMC’s N3E (3nm) process, the same as the A18/A18 Pro and M4 chips in Apple’s iPhone 16 series.

In addition, there are reports that some baseband chips for Apple’s new Apple Watch will also be supplied by MediaTek.
