Apple’s first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, will be officially launched on October 23. Apple is also beginning to make final preparations for the software ecosystem of the new phone.
Apple recently announced to developers that they can now submit apps and games optimized for iPhone Duo through App Store Connect.
Apple says developers can use Xcode 27.1 to recompile existing apps, which includes development support for iPhone Duo.
Since the display area and interface ratio change when the foldable screen is folded, unfolded, or when switching between portrait and landscape modes, developers can also use Device Hub to view the actual performance of their applications on the iPhone Duo in different body postures and check in advance whether there are any adaptation issues with the interface layout and interaction.
If an app is built or recompiled using Xcode 27.1, its App Store product page will also display a corresponding logo to indicate to users that the app has been optimized for iPhone Duo.
In addition, Apple announced that starting in April 2027, developers will be required to provide screenshots of their apps for iPhone Duo when submitting them to App Store Connect.
For Apple’s first foldable phone, hardware is only one part of the experience. Whether the apps can quickly adapt to folding, unfolding, and different screen orientations will also directly affect the actual user experience.
From opening up and optimizing app submissions to updating development tools and store display requirements, it’s clear that Apple has begun to accelerate the process of encouraging developers to adapt their apps for the iPhone Duo, laying the groundwork for the software ecosystem in advance of the new device’s official launch.
