MediaTek Leads Smartphone Processor Market With 33% Market Share

Here comes the highlights of the latest developments in the global smartphone application processor (AP) market, as reported by the research firm Counterpoint Research. In the third quarter of 2023, MediaTek emerged as the biggest winner, securing the top spot in the global smartphone System-on-chip (SoC) market with a 33% share. This achievement marks MediaTek’s 13th consecutive quarter as the leader in smartphone chip market share.

A significant highlight of the quarter was MediaTek’s launch of its latest flagship product, the Dimensity 9300. This processor is notable for being the first in history to feature an all-large core CPU architecture. It has achieved a record-breaking AnTuTu benchmark score of over 2.3 million, making it the leading flagship SoC of its time.

The Dimensity 9300 not only boasts an aggressive super-large core architecture but also excels in power consumption control, outperforming traditional tri-cluster setups. Its advantages in background processing are particularly noteworthy, which is expected to help the Dimensity 9300 penetrate further into the high-end flagship market.

Another key feature of the Dimensity 9300 is its generative AI capability, being the first to successfully run a 33 billion parameter AI large language model on a mobile chip, positioning it as a pioneer in AI smartphones.

The vivo X100, equipped with the Dimensity 9300 processor, showcases the chip’s powerful imaging capabilities, fully leveraging its strengths. The comprehensive quality of the vivo X100, with almost no shortcomings, marks a new milestone in the flagship domain.

Analysts from Morgan Stanley have praised the Dimensity 9300, calling it the most powerful smartphone processor in history. They anticipate that MediaTek’s market position will reach new heights, with a projected market share of 35-40% next year and a global shipment volume expected to hit a record-breaking 20 million units.
