Apple’s first foldable screen iPhone Duo officially went on pre-sale last night at 8 pm. Almost all major platforms sold out within 1 minute, and Apple’s official website crashed at one point. The current delivery date has been scheduled until the end of January 2027.
According to domestic media reports, an Apple Store employee in Sanlitun, Beijing, responded to questions about a potential shortage of the iPhone Duo by saying, “Apple’s supply is definitely not a problem. It’s just that the iPhone Duo is so popular that the demand is indeed greater than for previous new products, and it takes longer to get your hands on one.”
Regarding when the store will have stock available, the staff member said that it currently takes about two months for the iPhone 18 Pro Max to arrive in the store, while the iPhone Duo is even more popular, and the estimated arrival time is three months later.
The iPhone Duo’s starting price in China is 15,999 yuan for the 256GB version, 17,999 yuan for the 512GB version, 21,499 yuan for the 1TB version, and 26,499 yuan for the top-of-the-line 2TB version. It is Apple’s most expensive iPhone model to date, and the in-store pickup slots were sold out instantly on the first day of release, October 23.
The initial scarcity directly drove up the premium in the third-party market. The news that “iPhone Duo pre-sale premium of 10,000 yuan” once became a trending topic. The Dewu App showed that the pre-sale transaction price of multiple versions exceeded 20,000 yuan, with the 1TB black version approaching 29,000 yuan, which is 7,143 yuan higher than the launch price. The 256GB black version saw an increase of nearly 40%.
Second-hand and scalper channels have also seen instances of price gouging for and reselling devices, with markups ranging from several thousand to tens of thousands of yuan depending on the capacity. Local distributors say that getting a device on the first day of release basically requires paying an extra fee.
According to industry analysis, the supply of iPhone Duo will not reach a reasonable level until at least November.
