Rediscovering the glory of MIX! It is revealed that Xiaomi’s under-screen camera technology has been iterating

Blogger Digital Chat Station hinted that although Xiaomi has not launched a mass-produced model with under-screen front camera at this stage, the relevant technology has been continuously iterating and has achieved the highest level in the industry, and will be released into mass production at an appropriate time.

Although the under-screen camera brings a true full-screen form factor, its defects have always affected the popularization of this technology. Generally speaking, the key to achieving under-screen imaging is to allow the under-screen sensor to receive light, but the display panel is generally not light-transmitting, so it is necessary to adjust the arrangement and layout of the display pixels to allow some light to shine in and be transmitted to the camera sensor under the screen to achieve imaging. However, this also leads to a decrease in the screen pixel density, resulting in a “screen window” effect.

Earlier in 2021, Xiaomi MIX 4 equipped with under-screen camera technology was officially released. It was the flagship model with the highest level of under-screen camera in the industry at that time.

According to the official introduction, the under-screen front camera technology of Xiaomi MIX 4 has undergone three technical iterations in three years. It pioneered the micro-drill arrangement, which can reduce light obstruction and solve the color block problem in the CUP area. The previous under-screen camera solution would actively reduce the resolution of the OLED screen in the camera area from 400PPI to 200PPI, but the Xiaomi MIX 4 screen has also solved the screen door effect problem in the CUP area while maintaining a resolution of 400PPI.

However, compared with mainstream hole-punch screen phones, the front camera imaging of Xiaomi MIX 4 still has room for improvement. Subsequent Xiaomi flagship models have always adopted the hole-punch screen form.

Although Xiaomi has no plans to launch models with under-screen front cameras at this stage, the company has been iterating on this technology internally. I believe that mass-produced models will be launched in the future, recreating the full-screen glory of MIX.
