REDMI Note 17 Pro’s first sale discount of 200 yuan:

The REDMI Note 17 Pro was officially released this evening, with a starting price of 1599 yuan. The 256GB version has a 200 yuan discount for the first sale, bringing the price down to 1699 yuan for the 8GB+256GB version and 1999 yuan for the 12GB+256GB version.

A netizen left a comment under Lu Weibing’s Weibo post, expressing his amazement that such pricing was truly remarkable given the significant increase in memory costs.

Since 2026, mobile phone memory chips have experienced an unprecedented wave of price increases. DRAM contract prices have increased by more than 340% year-to-date, and NAND flash memory prices have increased by more than 320%. The root cause of this round of price increases lies in the explosive growth in demand for AI computing power.

Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron, the three major manufacturers, have devoted most of their production capacity to the more profitable HBM products, severely squeezing the supply of consumer-grade DRAM. This has led to a dramatic change in the cost structure; in entry-level phones, memory and storage costs now account for over 60% of the bill of materials.

Lu Weibing, president of Xiaomi Group, previously stated that the pricing of any mobile phone is directly affected by the significant increase in memory costs. He predicted that the upward trend in memory prices will continue until at least the end of 2027, and may even continue into 2028.

As a budget-friendly model, the REDMI Note 17 Pro continues the series’ excellent drop resistance and full-level water resistance. Users participating in the initial sale will also enjoy 2 years of screen breakage warranty, 2 years of water damage warranty, 2 years of back cover warranty, and 5 years of battery warranty, providing comprehensive after-sales support. Its pricing is highly competitive within its price range.

In addition, the device supports AI anti-fraud functions, which, when enabled, support call fraud prevention, AI face-swapping detection, and other protective capabilities. It also features NFC anti-theft functionality, which can effectively reduce the chances of being scammed by middle-aged and elderly users and provide them with a more secure daily user experience.
