Samsung develops 2nm chip Exynos 2600: one step ahead of Qualcomm

According to media reports, in the field of chip manufacturing, 3nm is in its infancy, and the competition around 2nm has already started in full swing.

Samsung is developing the 2nm chip Exynos 2600, code-named Thetis, which is expected to start mass production in the second half of 2025 and will be first equipped in the Galaxy S26 series.

The report pointed out that the Galaxy S25 series will be equipped with the 3nm chip Exynos 2500. Its rival Snapdragon 8 Gen4 also uses the 3nm process, and the pace of both sides will be consistent.

However, in the second half of 2025, Samsung will be the first to enter the 2nm process, and the Galaxy S26 series is expected to become the first 2nm flagship in the Android camp.

It is reported that Samsung’s 2nm adopts the latest generation of MBCFET architecture. Compared with the FinFET-based process technology, the former’s transistor performance is improved by 11%, while leakage is reduced by about 50%.

On the other hand, MBCFETs are stacked on top of each other with the fins placed sideways, and the width of the nanosheet can be adjusted to provide more channel width options than FinFETs, a feature that is useful for the entire design, which has significant advantages in analog SRAM.
