Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 Chinese version returns to Qualcomm platform: self-developed chip only lasted one generation.

According to a report by Fast Technology on June 24, blogger iIce Universe revealed that the Chinese and US versions of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 will return to the Qualcomm Snapdragon platform, instead of using Samsung’s own Exynos 2600 chip.

Looking back at last year’s Galaxy Z Flip7, the Chinese version of the phone broke with tradition and was the first to use Samsung’s self-developed Exynos 2500 chip, a SoC manufactured based on Samsung’s 3nm GAA process.

Looking back at Samsung’s past foldable phones, only the Galaxy Z Flip7 in the Chinese version used the Exynos processor. However, Samsung only persisted with this generation before abandoning its self-developed solution and returning to Qualcomm. The Galaxy Z Flip8 is expected to be equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8E5 flagship platform, which is currently the most powerful mobile chip in the Android camp.

It’s worth noting that this phone will be the only small foldable flagship among the top 5 Android brands, as other brands have abandoned this product line. Industry analysts believe that small foldable phones are essentially more like foldable candybar phones in terms of function—aside from the change in physical form, there is no significant difference in software interaction and usage scenarios compared to traditional candybar phones. This high degree of functional overlap largely limits its premium pricing potential.

Currently, the top 5 Android brands are focusing their resources on large foldable models, making the Galaxy Z Flip7 the only remaining small foldable screen product on the market at the time. The Flip8 continues this strategy, and whether Samsung’s lone effort in the small foldable market can bring a turnaround remains to be seen.
