Samsung Projects Galaxy Z Fold 8 to Outperform Z Flip 8 in Sales for the First Time

Looking at Samsung’s Galaxy S series it’s clear that buyers gravitate toward the Ultra model which often sells more units than the vanilla and Plus versions put together despite being the most expensive option. Interestingly, this trend does not carry over to Samsung’s foldable phones. In that category, the more affordable Galaxy Z Flip significantly outsells the premium Galaxy Z Fold reversing the usual flagship buying pattern seen in the S series.

Ice Universe reports, based on insider sources that Samsung is preparing to change course with its upcoming foldables. To that end, the company is allegedly planning to produce approximately 3.5 million Galaxy Z Fold 8 units compared to an expected 2.5–3 million units of the Galaxy Z Flip 8 signaling a stronger push for the Fold lineup.

However, these figures reportedly do not account for an additional upcoming model tentatively referred to as the Galaxy Wide Fold. This device is said to have a planned production volume of around 1 million units. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z TriFold is also in the works but it’s expected to be a low volume release mainly intended as a halo product to showcase Samsung’s foldable technology.

That said these figures are still based on rumors and internal production targets. The real test will be how the market responds as the final number of devices purchased by consumers may differ significantly from these initial targets.

Yesterday, Ice revealed Samsung’s planned production figures for the Galaxy S26 family and they appear to favor the Ultra model more strongly than ever. The timing of production may be a key factor here, as the Galaxy S26 Ultra is said to have entered mass production in December while the Galaxy S26 and S26+ didn’t follow until January, potentially inflating the Ultra’s share of early production numbers.

Samsung is expected to officially unveil the Galaxy S26 lineup toward the end of this month while its next generation of foldable devices is anticipated to follow later in the year, likely arriving sometime around July.
