The core specifications of the Snapdragon 8 Gen5 have been disclosed. Built on the same manufacturing process and architectural design as the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen5, the two chips are effectively twin models. The Snapdragon 8 Gen5 will serve as the direct successor to the previous N-1 generation.
Qualcomm is reportedly planning to continue this product line over the long term, maintaining a two-tier structure with standard and Pro (Elite) models. This approach allows the company to offer options for different types of users while positioning itself to compete directly with Apple in the high-end mobile chip market.
According to internal benchmarks, the Snapdragon 8 Gen5 achieves higher scores than the 8 Elite on AnTuTu, shows slightly lower single-core scores on Geekbench 6 but delivers stronger multi core performance. In gaming tests, several new devices with the 8 Gen5 provide experiences comparable to or better than those with the 8 Elite.
Interestingly, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset is priced higher than the Snapdragon 8 Elite even though both being high end processors. In Qualcomm’s latest product lineup, the mainstream flagship series referred to as the “digital” series, will now replace the previous N‑1 generation. This change reflects Qualcomm’s effort to reorganize its product offerings and create a clearer structure in the market for both users and device manufacturers.
Qualcomm is set to officially introduce the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 later this month, providing a detailed look at the chipset’s performance results, platform features and improvements over previous generations. This move signals a shift in Qualcomm’s approach to the smartphone market, aiming to simplify the product structure and provide a clear difference between series.
