vivo X100 Ultra hands-on: This year’s most versatile imaging flagship

When talking about the vivo X100 Ultra, many mobile phone users will think of the nickname “Thanos”. With a 200-megapixel super telephoto lens, a one-inch gimbal main camera and vivo’s self-developed imaging chip, the imaging configuration is already the first echelon in the Android camp. I have also tried this phone recently, and today I will talk about the experience based on actual testing.

As one of the core selling points of vivo X100 Ultra, image quality is worth talking about in advance. We will not go into too much detail about the parameters this time. You just need to know that the hardware configuration of the telephoto and main camera of this product is full, and it has also obtained Zeiss APO certification, so the photos taken are very tasteful.

Directly above are the pictures we took when we went to New Zealand. The details of the birds are also very rich under the 10X telephoto lens, and the powerful strength is enough to cover various scenes in daily use.

The one-inch main camera is capable of shooting close to the face, with clear details and natural blurring of distant scenes. With the help of Zeiss Natural Color 2.0 function, it can also fine-tune the camera’s image saturation, combined with white balance, brightness and tone, to achieve a natural and soft picture effect and highlight the sense of color layering.

With the help of vivo X100 Ultra, even ordinary users can feel the charm of mobile phone photography. This kind of casual filming can really bring a great sense of accomplishment to the photographer. Even a novice in photography can record wonderful moments and fall in love with photography.

performance

Performance can be said to be a track where it is difficult for various mobile phone manufacturers to widen the gap. Whether it is smooth in daily use depends mainly on how well the system is made. We will look at this aspect later.

In terms of hardware, the vivo X100 Ultra is equipped with the third-generation Snapdragon 8 processor, combined with LPDDR5X memory and UFS4.0 storage to form a powerful performance triangle. This is also the mainstream configuration of the current Android flagship. It scored 2.16 million points in the AnTuTu running test, and can easily handle medium and large games.

When playing “Genshin Impact” under normal conditions and with the picture quality maxed out, the average frame rate for 30 minutes of gameplay can remain stable at 60.1, with no obvious fluctuations throughout the entire process, and only slight lags in some battle scenes.

In terms of charging configuration, the built-in 5500mAH of vivo X100 Ultra is indeed more durable. I can play with it for an hour on the way to work, play for a while during lunch break and after get off work, and often still have 30-40% power left when I go to bed at night.

However, the author still recommends that you charge as you use it in daily life. If you always run out of power and charge for a long time, it may reduce the battery life. If you have a wireless base, it will be more convenient. After use, you can just put it next to the phone to charge at 30W, which is very convenient.

Because the battery is relatively large, the vivo X100 Ultra takes about 40 minutes to fully charge, but it can charge nearly half of the power in 15 minutes, which is enough for several hours of use.

system

We have mentioned before that if today’s flagship phones want to differentiate themselves in terms of experience, it is more important to optimize at the system level than at the hardware configuration level.

Vivo phones now use the OriginOS 4 operating system, which has built-in virtual graphics card technology. By opening up an independent process as a display unit, it provides a natural and comfortable experience during control, vision, and interaction, achieves timely feedback on the interaction, and ensures smooth visual effects.

The vivo X100 Ultra in my hand has 16GB of memory, and the system supports dynamic expansion of 16GB of running memory. In actual use, it can retain more than a dozen applications at the same time in the background, and the application startup speed is also very fast. There is rarely a “stuck interface” feeling when swiping up on previous mobile phones.

In the OriginOS 4 operating system, the capabilities of Blue Heart Xiao V have also been improved. When we are in a meeting, we usually have to use a notebook to manually record some key points. The Blue Heart AI recorder uses artificial intelligence technology to transcribe the recording into text after recording. It also supports local offline processing to protect privacy and security.

It is summer now. When we use mobile phones outdoors, we often feel that the back cover is hot or the application is stuck. Blue Heart V also supports a “cooling secret technique”. You only need to say “cool down the phone” to it, and it can temporarily reduce the CPU and GPU frequency, or close some unlocked applications to make the feel more comfortable.

Many mobile phones do not support opening Excel, PDF and other documents, and you have to download third-party applications, which is very troublesome when you need them urgently. The OriginOS 4 system supports universal document functions, which supports viewing, editing and sharing documents in various formats, allowing users to handle document work anytime and anywhere; it is also convenient to find and enter work files at ordinary times.

Appearance

In fact, for many careless users like me, the appearance of the phone may not be that important. After all, the first thing I will do after getting it is to buy a phone case to avoid the discomfort of seeing it broken.

However, the textured appearance of vivo X100 Ultra is also one of its selling points. The family-style design of the sun-ring cloud steps is very attractive, and the metal-look glass back cover is quite a surprise when I got it.

Eye protection function is gradually becoming the primary consideration for many users when buying mobile phones. The vivo X100 Ultra uses a 6.78-inch 2K OLED screen and Samsung E7 luminous material. The screen peak brightness can reach up to 3000nit. It also supports LTPO, high-frequency PWM dimming and other technologies, so there is no need to worry about eye protection.

By the way, this phone also supports IP68 and IP69 certifications, so you don’t have to worry about liquid splashes in daily use, just wipe it off in time.

Summarize

Finally, to sum up briefly, the vivo X100 Ultra has demonstrated “Thanos” level strength in all aspects, and it almost meets my expectations for high-end smartphones.

If you are looking for an all-round flagship phone, the vivo X100 Ultra is definitely a choice worth considering. After all, in the world of smartphones, only those who are all-round can be called “Thanos”.
