Xiaomi 18 Fold is generating buzz even before its official release

Fast Technology reported that the Xiaomi 18 Fold foldable flagship has begun blind pre-orders on major platforms and offline channels, with many netizens already pre-ordering and sharing screenshots of their orders. According to official information, the Xiaomi 18 Fold will be officially released in September.

Although the price and specific configuration of the phone have not yet been fully revealed, considering the starting price of 8,999 yuan for the Xiaomi MIX Fold 4, and the R&D costs of the self-developed chip and new form factor, the final price of the Xiaomi 18 Fold is expected to be around 10,000 yuan.

The Xiaomi 18 Fold is a wide-screen foldable phone, fundamentally different in design philosophy from the previous MIX Fold series. Its inner screen is more aligned with the aspect ratio of mainstream video content, significantly narrowing the black borders when watching videos in landscape mode for a more immersive viewing experience. When reading documents and browsing the web, the single screen can display more content, significantly improving mobile work efficiency.

This phone is the first to feature the Xuanjie O3 chip, Xiaomi’s second self-developed high-end flagship SoC. It continues the 3nm process, increasing the transistor count from 19 billion to 24 billion, providing a stronger foundation for chip performance. Xiaomi lab data shows that the Xuanjie O3 achieved an AnTuTu benchmark score of 5,228,014, making it the industry’s first mobile flagship platform to break the 5 million mark.

In terms of imaging, the Xiaomi 18 Fold is expected to feature a Leica triple-camera system, including a main camera, an ultra-wide-angle lens, and a periscope telephoto lens. It will also debut a self-developed AI large model and come pre-installed with the new Surge OS 4 system.

Notably, Surge OS 4 has undergone deep optimization for devices with different screen ratios. Whether it’s a traditional candybar screen or an innovative foldable screen, the system application layout has been redesigned according to handheld usage scenarios, ensuring a smooth and consistent operating experience across all types of devices.
