Apple A19 Pro beats Ryzen 9 9950X in single-threaded performance

How strong is the single-core performance of the A19 Pro? Let’s compare it with the Ryzen 9 9950X.

According to Geekbench 6 benchmark data, the A19 Pro’s single-threaded score is 3895 points, an 11% increase from the previous generation A18 Pro and 36% higher than Qualcomm’s flagship chip Snapdragon 8 Elite.

What’s more noteworthy is that its single-threaded performance has surpassed many desktop-level processors—5.3% higher than Apple’s own M4 chip, 11.8% higher than AMD’s Ryzen 9 9950X, and 15.8% faster than Intel’s i9-14900KS.

In the multi-threaded test, the A19 Pro scored 9746 points, only 12% higher than the previous generation, and still significantly behind mainstream desktop CPUs.

Industry analysts believe that this gap is mainly due to the power consumption limitations and core number differences of mobile devices. Currently, the A19 Pro still uses a six-core design with two performance cores and four energy-efficiency cores.

Although Apple didn’t disclose detailed GPU specifications at the event, actual measurements indicate significant performance improvements. Geekbench 6 Metal scores the A19 Pro GPU at 45,657, making it 37% faster than the A81 Pro. This puts it on par with the GPUs in the iPad Air’s M2 or M3 processors, and rivals the integrated graphics of AMD’s Radeon 890M.

It is worth noting that the iPhone 17 Pro series is equipped with a six-core GPU, while the iPhone Air is a five-core configuration.

According to information on Apple’s official website, with the newly designed VC heat sink cooling system, the A19 Pro has achieved a sustained performance improvement of up to 40% on the iPhone 17 Pro series compared to the previous generation. It is especially suitable for heavy tasks such as gaming, video editing, and local running of large language models.
