Apple compromises! Three configurations of iPhone 17 Air are cut because it is too thin and light

The iPhone 17 series added the Air model and removed the Plus model. The newly added iPhone 17 Air features an ultra-thin design and is the thinnest mobile phone in Apple’s history.

Blogger Jon Prosser revealed that the thickness of the iPhone 17 Air is 5.64 mm, and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes that the thickness of the iPhone 17 Air is 5.5 mm. Although the data from the two informants differ, it is certain that the thickness of the iPhone 17 Air is within 6 mm.

In order to achieve an ultra-thin design, Apple had to sacrifice some basic configurations. According to reports, the iPhone 17 Air has cut off the bottom speaker, ultra-wide-angle camera and physical SIM card slot.

The report pointed out that the iPhone 17 Air has only one speaker, the earpiece position at the top, and the opening at the bottom is the microphone.

Not only that, Apple also cut off the ultra-wide-angle camera, leaving only a 48-megapixel main camera on the back, which supports optical quality 2x zoom.

In addition, the iPhone 17 Air only supports eSIM. Unlike traditional physical SIM cards, eSIM can be directly integrated into the device’s motherboard and achieve network connection by remotely downloading configuration files. Its biggest advantage is that it saves internal space of the device.

In terms of industrial design, the iPhone 17 Air adopts a horizontal camera module design, and the rear camera DECO resembles a strip runway. This is the model with the biggest changes in Apple’s history.
