Information from multiple sources shows that after years of research and development and countless rumors, Apple’s first foldable iPhone will be released next year.
According to reports, this new phone, called “iPhone Fold”, will have five innovative features:
Dual-screen design: When unfolded, it is equipped with an approximately 7.8-inch inner screen (close to the size of the early iPad mini), and when folded, it uses an approximately 5.5-inch outer screen (similar to the screen of the discontinued iPhone mini).
Crease-free hinge: adopts a “book-style folding” design to basically eliminate screen creases. The body thickness is 9-9.5mm when folded and only 4.5-4.8mm when unfolded (thinner than the upcoming iPhone 17 Air).
Quad-camera system: includes two 48-megapixel rear lenses (specific type undetermined) and a front camera in the folded/unfolded state (or a 24-megapixel lens with a hole-punch design).
Touch ID replaces Face ID: Due to space limitations, the side button will integrate fingerprint recognition function instead of Face ID facial recognition, similar to some large folding phones on the market.
Titanium body: The hinges and shell will be made of titanium (although the iPhone 17 Pro series will abandon this material this year).
Analysts believe that the iPhone Fold is expected to push foldable devices into the mass market, but its software adaptation (such as split-screen multitasking function) remains a key challenge.
