Google Rolls Out Pixel 8 Camera UI To Older Phones

Google has recently updated its Camera app to version 9.2, introducing several new features and enhancements, including the Night Sight Time Lapse mode for the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro. This update is not limited to the latest Pixel models; it is also being rolled out to older Pixel phones, bringing a revamped interface and other improvements.

Key Features of Google Camera v9.2

  • Night Sight Time Lapse: This new feature is added to the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro. It allows users to record longer-duration time-lapse videos in Night Sight mode. For example, a 5-minute recording in Full HD resolution will result in a 10-second time-lapse video, and in a 4K resolution, a 20-minute recording will produce a 10-second time-lapse.
  • Revamped Interface: The update brings a redesigned interface to older Pixel phones. This interface was first introduced with the Pixel 8 series and includes a Pro mode, repositioned controls, and other enhancements.
  • Reset All Button: A new ‘Reset All’ button has been added to quickly reset changes made to brightness, shadow, and white balance. This feature was previously exclusive to the Pixel 8 Pro but is now available on the Pixel 8 as well.
  • Palm Timer: The update allows users to enable the Palm timer without setting a 3 or 10-second timer, which was a requirement before.
  • Ultra HDR and Rich Color Options: On the Pixel 7, users will find options to toggle capturing photos in Ultra HDR and Rich color. On the Pixel 8, there is an option to disable taking Ultra HDR pictures.

Rollout and Availability

  • The Google Camera v9.2 update is being distributed through the Play Store. However, the update might not be immediately visible to all users.
  • The rollout is likely in anticipation of the December 2023 Feature Drop, expected to arrive in the next few days.
  • Users who don’t want to wait for the official rollout can manually sideload the APK from APKMirror.

The update to Google Camera v9.2 is a significant enhancement for Pixel users, bringing new features and a refreshed user interface to both new and older Pixel models. This update reflects Google’s commitment to improving the camera experience across its range of devices.
