Huawei Mate 80 Air to be released as early as the second half of the year: Kirin 9030 series chip + 7-inch screen

According to the latest supply chain news reported by Fast Technology on July 13, Huawei is continuing to expand its Mate 80 series product lineup. The long-rumored new member, the Mate 80 Air, has now been finalized in terms of its release schedule.

According to a tech industry insider, the Huawei Mate 80 Air is confirmed to be officially released in the second half of this year. In terms of core configuration, it will be equipped with the latest Kirin 9030 series chip and will also support Huawei’s Red Maple Imaging Technology across the entire series, maintaining the same level of imaging capabilities as the flagship series.

The new phone’s appearance and screen specifications have also been leaked. It will still use a specially customized 7-inch quad-curved screen and will not adopt the currently popular flat screen solution, thus balancing a large field of view and an excellent handheld grip.

Last November, Huawei launched the Mate 70 Air, a phone with a similar positioning. The starting price was 4,199 yuan. The phone came in four different storage configurations and was powered by the Kirin 9020 series processor. After its launch, it won over many users who preferred a large-screen experience with its differentiated positioning of large size and thinness.

The official announcement of the Mate 80 Air, proceeding as planned, actually sends two clear industry signals: First, the production ramp-up of the Kirin 9030 series chips has been successfully completed, and the inventory is sufficient to support the long-term stable sales of the new product. Second, the overall sales of the expanded Mate 80 series will likely reach 10 million units much faster than the previous generation Mate 70 series.

The currently available sales data also confirms this growth trend. As of the 27th week of 2026, the cumulative sales of the Mate 80 series across all channels have reached approximately 7.6055 million units. Since its launch, the market performance has maintained a strong growth momentum. With the addition of new users brought by the Mate 80 Air, the overall sales will usher in a new round of surge.

If the price remains the same as the previous generation, this generation of Mate 80 Air, with an increased price but no increase in features, may be the most cost-effective version in the entire series.
