Huawei Mate 90 series teased in early September: First to feature Kirin 9050 chip built on Tao’s principles

According to a report by Fast Technology on July 20th, blogger Super Dimension World revealed that Huawei’s Mate 90 series is expected to launch its pre-launch campaign in early September, with the official product launch scheduled for mid-to-late September. As Huawei’s flagship product line of the year, the release schedule of the Mate 90 series has attracted significant market attention.

One of the biggest highlights of the Mate 90 series is that it will be the first to feature the Kirin 9050 series chip. Built based on the principles of chip design, this chip represents a significant leap forward in performance, marking another major breakthrough for Huawei in the chip industry.

In recent years, Moore’s Law, which has dominated the semiconductor industry for more than half a century, is facing the dual challenges of physical limits and economic efficiency. With transistor sizes approaching the atomic scale, continued miniaturization through traditional process paths has become increasingly difficult.

To overcome this limitation and explore a new sustainable evolution path to meet the exponentially increasing computing performance demands, Huawei proposed the Tao Law, striving to find a new way in the technological path.

Specifically, Huawei has innovatively proposed core technologies such as “logic folding” and built a multi-level collaborative optimization system that runs through devices, circuits, chips and systems.

At the circuit level, logic folding technology breaks through the physical boundaries of traditional planar layouts, significantly shortens the trace length of critical paths, and effectively reduces the resistance and capacitance load during signal propagation, thereby achieving a significant improvement in transistor density and circuit performance.

The Kirin 9050 series is a flagship chip built on the Tao Law. Huawei stated that it expects that by 2031, the transistor density of high-end chips based on the Tao Law will reach the same level as the 1.4-nanometer process, demonstrating the long-term potential of this technology route.

In terms of product lineup, the Huawei Mate 90 series continues the four-model strategy, including the standard version, Pro version, Pro Max version, and RS Master Edition. With a new chip platform and comprehensively upgraded hardware configuration, this generation of the Mate series will be Huawei’s most powerful flagship product to date.
