According to Fast Technology on October 12, several bloggers have revealed that Huawei is preparing a new mobile phone sub-brand called “Starlight”.
According to Tianyancha, Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. applied for registration of the “Huawei Star” trademark as early as 2023, covering four categories: scientific instruments, jewelry and watches, advertising and sales, and website services. This means that Huawei’s move to use the “Star” trademark was not a spur-of-the-moment decision, but rather something that had been planned for a long time.
As is well known, Honor was once a sub-brand of Huawei, established in December 2013. With Huawei’s support, Honor once became the number one internet smartphone brand. In November 2020, Huawei sold Honor. After Honor became independent, Huawei no longer holds any shares and no longer participates in its management or decision-making.
After a six-year hiatus, Huawei’s new sub-brand, Starlight, is about to debut. According to the blogger Digital Chat Station, in addition to Starlight, the Enjoy 100 series is also poised for launch, with the full return of Kirin 7, Kirin 8, and Kirin 9 series chips, suggesting that Huawei’s mobile phone business may be poised to return to its peak.
To date, Huawei’s Enjoy, nova, Pura, and Mate product lines have all been equipped with Kirin chips. From entry-level phones priced around 1,000 yuan to foldable flagship phones costing over 10,000 yuan, Kirin chips cover the entire price range, making the product matrix more complete.
Meanwhile, the HarmonyOS ecosystem continues to expand. The number of terminal devices equipped with HarmonyOS 6 and HarmonyOS 7 has exceeded 90 million, and the number of native applications has grown in tandem, covering various types of devices such as mobile phones, tablets, in-vehicle systems, and wearables. HarmonyOS has moved from being “usable” to being “easy to use,” establishing a stable user base on the consumer side.
At the market level, HarmonyOS has grown into the world’s third largest operating system, forming a three-way competition with Android and iOS. This is not only a breakthrough for Huawei, but also signifies that domestically developed operating systems have truly gained a foothold in the mobile market.
From chips to operating systems, Huawei has built a self-sufficient closed loop encompassing both hardware and software. With the arrival of its sub-brand Xingmang, Huawei’s mobile phone business is poised for a triumphant return.
