Huawei’s first wide-screen flagship phone is tentatively scheduled for release in December

According to Fast Technology on June 4, in February of this year, blogger “Digital Chat Station” revealed that Huawei’s first wide-screen smartphone has been officially launched and will be released in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Today, blogger “Smart Pikachu” further stated that Huawei’s wide-screen smartphone is tentatively scheduled to debut at the end of the year, around December, and the new phone is positioned towards the mid-to-high-end market.

Based on current leaks, the device will feature a 6.39-inch screen with an aspect ratio close to 16:10. The screen design is significantly different from traditional candybar phones, giving it a more tablet-like appearance and providing more horizontal display space.

In terms of core configuration, the new phone will be equipped with the Kirin 9 series flagship platform, a large battery of about 7000mAh, and a 50-megapixel flagship triple-camera setup on the rear.

From a product form perspective, the biggest feature of this type of wide candybar phone is that while maintaining the portability of a candybar phone, it provides a display experience closer to that of a small-sized tablet.

Compared to regular candybar phones, widescreen displays can show more horizontal content when browsing web pages, reading images and text, or viewing tables or documents, reducing the need for frequent zooming and swiping.

In video and gaming scenarios, a widescreen display can provide a broader field of view, especially when used in landscape mode, where the visual immersion is stronger.

In addition, the widescreen form factor is more suitable for multitasking. For example, when using two apps in split-screen mode, both the left and right sides can get a relatively ample display area, unlike ordinary mobile phones which feel too cramped.

Huawei’s previously launched Pura X adopted a 16:10 screen ratio, and this wide aspect ratio design has shown obvious advantages in scenarios such as video playback, image and text browsing, and multitasking.

If the leaks are true, Huawei’s first wide-screen smartphone will further enrich its product line of non-traditional form factors, and may also be another attempt by Huawei to differentiate its smartphone form factors after foldable screens and mini foldable phones.
