Huawei’s most important flagship Mate 80 preview: eSIM + satellite communication

Digital blogger Smart Pikachu posted on Weibo that the Huawei Mate 80 series will use a new communication architecture that combines low-orbit satellite communications with eSIM technology. According to the blogger, the Huawei Mate 80 series is currently undergoing internal testing of the eSIM function.

eSIM, or embedded SIM card, integrates the functions of a traditional physical SIM card directly into the device chip, eliminating the need for a physical card slot. This technology not only saves space inside the phone but also enhances the device’s dust and water resistance.

Users can activate their numbers online through the operator’s app, making switching operators more convenient. Earlier, there were reports that Huawei may commercialize eSIM technology for the first time on the Mate XTs tri-fold phone to be released in September, and the Mate 80 series is also expected to be equipped with this feature.

In addition, the Mate 80 series will also support low-orbit satellite communications, continuing the satellite communication capabilities of the Mate X6 Classic Edition. Huawei’s Executive Director Yu Chengdong once said that the low-orbit satellite Internet system is expected to start public testing in the second half of 2025, which means that the Mate 80 series may become the first mass-produced models to support this technology.

This function can provide critical communication guarantee in remote areas without base station coverage or in emergency situations.

The Huawei Mate 80 series is expected to become the flagship focus of the mobile phone market in the second half of this year. The latest news shows that the model may be officially unveiled in October and is expected to be the world’s first to be equipped with the new generation Kirin 9030 processor.

As Huawei’s flagship product for the second half of 2025, the Mate 80 series is expected to be released as early as October. The addition of these two technologies will further consolidate its competitiveness in the high-end market and promote innovative breakthroughs in smartphone communication technology.

Editor’s comments:

The leaked information about the Huawei Mate80 series once again demonstrates its disruptive layout in communication technology. The introduction of eSIM technology not only simplifies user operations and improves device reliability, but also has the potential to accelerate the industry’s farewell to the era of physical SIM cards.

The implementation of low-orbit satellite communications has allowed mobile phones to completely break free from the limitations of terrestrial networks, achieving “permanent connection” in emergency and remote scenarios. The combination of these two technologies is both a continuation of Huawei’s “breakthrough” technology and a bold expansion of smartphone functionality.
