iPhone 18 Pro’s variable aperture technology is confirmed: Apple has already produced a prototype.

Fast Technology reported on January 29th that the iPhone 18 Pro will be officially unveiled this fall. According to leaks, the iPhone 18 Pro series will feature a variable aperture lens, allowing for more precise control over light intake and depth of field; Apple has already produced prototypes.

Previously, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed that the variable aperture blade assembly equipment for the iPhone 18 Pro series was provided by BE Semiconductor, a semiconductor equipment company from the Netherlands.

Furthermore, the variable aperture lens for the iPhone 18 Pro series is supplied by two suppliers: Sunny Optical and Largan Precision. Largan Precision is a Tier 1 supplier, while Sunny Optical is a Tier 2 supplier.

Currently, most mainstream mobile phone brands have experimented with variable aperture solutions, with Huawei being a prime example. Some models in Huawei’s Mate and nova series support variable aperture. For instance, the Huawei nova 13 Pro supports ten physical aperture stops from F1.4 to F4.0, adapting to various shooting scenarios.

In low-light and night scene environments, it intelligently adjusts to the maximum aperture of F1.4 to reveal details in dark areas and retain clear outlines of night scene bokeh; in group photos of three or more people, it automatically adjusts to F4.0, and the expanded depth of field makes people at all distances the focus.

In addition to supporting variable aperture, Apple is also evaluating teleconverters, an external lens solution that has emerged in the Android camp in recent years.

Taking the vivo X300 series as an example, vivo has created a Zeiss 2.35x telephoto lens for it, which can increase the focal length of the telephoto lens to 200mm. It can achieve super telephoto capabilities in scenarios such as concerts and travel photography, capturing more details in the scene.

If the iPhone could be equipped with an external teleconverter, it would significantly improve the telephoto capabilities of Apple phones.
