OPPO’s first wide folding camera has been launched: its size is close to that of the Apple iPhone Ultra

OPPO’s first wide foldable screen phone has entered the design and testing phase. The new product is expected to be officially launched in Q1 next year, and it may be the most powerful wide foldable flagship in the Android camp.

The hardware specifications of the new device have been basically finalized. It features a 7.6-inch inner screen and a 5.5-inch outer screen, with BOE and Samsung as the suppliers for the two screens. Its size is very close to that of the foldable screen of Apple’s upcoming iPhone Ultra, and it is even smaller than the iPad mini, so it is not difficult to hold with one hand.

In terms of core performance, the OPPO Foldable Phone will be equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8E6 series flagship chip platform, with a built-in battery capacity of around 6000mAh. It will also support industry-leading waterproofing, wireless charging, and side fingerprint recognition. The price of the phone will be over 10,000 yuan.

Unlike conventional foldable screens on the market, the wide foldable screen has a specially adjusted aspect ratio, which greatly increases the horizontal display space of the large screen after unfolding. Whether browsing the web or handling multitasking, it is much more convenient to operate than foldable screens with conventional aspect ratios.

Judging from the current product planning pace of various brands, wide foldable screens are the new direction for exploration in the entire foldable screen track. In addition to OPPO, many leading manufacturers such as Samsung and Xiaomi have included their own wide foldable models in the release queue, and the experience upgrade of the entire category is quite promising.

The wide folding design breaks away from the inward-looking approach of simply lengthening the vertical screen ratio of folding screens in the past few years, directly increasing the horizontal utilization rate of large-screen content. The price of around 10,000 yuan also means that domestic flagship phones are no longer following the homogenized route of simply piling on specifications, but are instead focusing on refining differentiated experiences for more segmented scenarios.
