REDMI K100 Pro SuperPixel Screen Explained: The Best Mobile Phone Screen in Its Class

Lu Weibing, partner and president of Xiaomi Group, published an article explaining the R&D logic behind the screen technology of the REDMI K100 Pro series.

He revealed that Xiaomi’s display team foresaw the escalating conflict between visual effects and power consumption five or six years ago, and thus established the long-term goal of “improving the quality and efficiency of the screen from the source.” The core of this goal is two actions: optimizing luminescent materials to improve luminous efficiency and improving pixel arrangement to improve display efficiency.

In terms of luminescent materials, Xiaomi has built its own material system—from the M9 with dual microcavities, to the M10 with a new domestic red luminescent material, and then to the M11, which debuted in the K100 Pro series.

The M11 is mass-produced based on fourth-generation pTSF technology, achieving simultaneous breakthroughs in the “impossible triangle” recognized in the OLED field: green pixel efficiency improved by 20%, covering 90% of the BT.2020 wide color gamut, lifespan improved by 5.2%, and overall screen efficiency improved by 8%.

In terms of pixel arrangement, Xiaomi has created SuperPixel technology through pixel reconstruction, adopting a full RGB arrangement where each pixel has independent red, green, and blue sub-pixels. On the K100 Pro Max’s 6.9-inch screen, the actual number of sub-pixels reaches 9.389 million, surpassing the 9.216 million of a similarly sized 2K diamond pixel arrangement. This means that although the physical resolution is not 2K, a clearer display effect than 2K is achieved through innovative pixel arrangement.

Lu Weibing emphasized that having more sub-pixels, each optimized from the source, is essential to achieving 2K-level clarity, greater brightness and accuracy, while also saving power. The final result is visual effects comparable to top-tier 2K screens, but with lower power consumption than conventional 1.5K screens—approximately 10% lower power consumption compared to 1.5K screens at the same brightness.

In addition, the screen has a local peak brightness of 4500 nits, supports an ultra-high refresh rate of 185Hz and an instantaneous touch sampling rate of 4800Hz, and is equipped with Xiaomi’s Green Mountain Eye Protection 4.0 technology and adds an anti-motion sickness mode.

The K100 Pro series will be officially released at 7 pm on August 11th, offering two sizes: 6.59 inches and 6.9 inches, both featuring a 185Hz super pixel flat screen.

Lu Weibing defines this screen as a “new generation of Chinese screen”—combining higher definition, higher brightness, higher refresh rate, wider color gamut, and lower power consumption, truly achieving “good-looking and energy-saving.”
