Samsung Cancels Galaxy S26 Edge After iPhone Air Fails to Impress in Sales

Earlier this year, reports suggested that Samsung was planning to replace the Galaxy S26+ in 2026 with a new model that would follow the ultra slim Galaxy S25 Edge. However, subsequent reports indicated that the company ultimately decided not to make this change.

Reports indicated that Samsung was still evaluating its strategy and preferred to wait before making any firm commitments. According to these sources, the company planned to decide later next year whether the Galaxy S26 Edge would actually be released. However, a new report now suggests that Samsung has entirely stopped working on its next ultra slim flagship model.

Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Edge May Not Hit the Market

It seems that both Samsung and Apple overestimated how much demand there would be for ultra slim flagship smartphones. The Galaxy S25 Edge has underperformed in terms of sales compared to Samsung’s expectations.   Similarly, Apple’s iPhone Air has experienced poor sale performance and has not gained much traction in the market.

Samsung may have little motivation to keep the Edge flagship in its lineup if Apple is no longer competing in this category. Reports suggest that Apple has no plans to launch a new iPhone Air in 2026. On top of that reports indicate that production of the iPhone Air has been significantly reduced.

The report also mention that Samsung believes the smaller 3,900mAh battery is one of the main reasons why the Galaxy S25 Edge has not performed well in terms of sales. While a larger battery was being considered for the device’s successor, the company still does not know if consumers will actually welcome or buy the upgraded version.

It is possible that Samsung may think about returning to the market for ultra-thin flagship phones if Apple takes steps to release a new iPhone Air. If Apple does not make such a move though the likelihood of Samsung launching an ultra slim Galaxy S model remains quite small. In other words, it seems unlikely that Samsung will bring back such a device anytime soon.
