Sony to Challenge Samsung with New 200 MP Smartphone Camera Sensor by 2025

If the smartphone manufacturer plans to equip the device with a camera with a high resolution sensor in 2025, only Samsung models can choose from. Soon, however, Sony may offer a matrix that is an alternative solution.

High -end camera

Currently, wanting to decide on a smartphone with a camera with the highest resolution, you can choose from such models as the recently presented Xiaomi 15 Ultra, Vivo X200 Pro, which will be available in Poland or still tested in the editorial office of Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. For Chinese devices, the most powerful option are periscope lenses equipped with a Samsung ISOCELL HP9 matrix with a resolution of 200 Mpix.

In the case of the Korean model, the hero is the main eye with the ISOCELL HP2 sensor, also taking pictures with a maximum chapter of 200 Mpix. The ISOCELL HP9 matrix premiered in June 2024. (Source: Samsung) As you can see, the choice is rather limited. However, the situation will not last forever. It is possible that Sony will soon be produced by the production of a competitive solution.

Sony flagship sensor with a resolution of 200 Mpix

A specialist in pre -release information, Digital Chat Station, has released an entry suggesting that the Japanese giant may soon start producing his own sensor with a resolution of 200 Mpix. It would be used in smartphones equipped with flagship mobile systems that are to appear in the second half of 2025, i.e. Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 or Dimensity 9500. What Sony cameras against Samsung counterparts would stand out is the sensor size. Thanks to the use of a 1/1.3 matrix, the module would take more light, which would translate, among others For better photos in low light. Unfortunately, these are the only details that He could share DCS at the moment.

Despite this, the announcement of flagship matrices from a manufacturer other than Samsung is a good sign – competition can lead to one thing – raising the bar when it comes to technical parameters or price reduction. Let’s hope that 200 Mpix Sony sensors are a chance for both. It is worth mentioning that we are talking here all the time about Sony solutions for external manufacturers and delivered under the name IMX or Lytia. For many years, the Xperia flagship models have been equipped with Exmor matrices, reserved only for the devices of the Japanese giant.
