According to a report by Fast Technology on August 3, renowned Apple journalist Mark Gurman recently published an article stating that the new iPhone 18 series will see a price increase this year, ranging from $100 to $200, equivalent to approximately RMB 675 to 1350. He also noted that the price of the first foldable iPhone will be significantly higher.
In an online interaction, Gurman clearly stated that this round of price increases was inevitable, with multiple cost pressures forcing Apple to adjust its terminal prices. On the supply chain side, there is a shortage of memory and core processors, and the procurement costs of components continue to rise.
On the product side, the new generation iPhone 18 Pro series has upgraded to a brand-new imaging module, with a significant increase in camera hardware R&D and material investment. The upcoming foldable screen model will also have higher production costs due to its unique structural design.
Prior to this, Apple had already adjusted the prices of its iPad and Mac products, with many computers and tablets seeing price increases in the range of $100 to $200. Gurman predicted that the iPhone would follow the same price adjustment, and the previous price increases for tablets and computers had already provided a clear reference.
In addition to the regular models, Gurman also reminded consumers to budget in advance, as the starting price of this foldable iPhone will not be lower than $2,000 (approximately RMB 13,500), positioning it far above mainstream foldable phones on the market. Comparing its pricing with competitors, it’s clear that Apple intends to position the foldable iPhone as a high-end flagship product line, relying on its new form factor to raise the average price of the product.
