The Snapdragon 8 Gen5 phone is coming: possibly the most cost-effective in history

The new Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 phone to be released may be the most cost-effective phone in history.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit is scheduled for September 23rd-25th in Maui, Hawaii. Recent reports indicate that in addition to releasing the next-generation flagship chip, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 (the second-generation Snapdragon 8 Extreme), Qualcomm also plans to launch the cost-effective Snapdragon 8 Gen5. This chip will be manufactured using the N3P process, and phones equipped with it may start at just 2,000 yuan.

ps. N3P is the third-generation technology node in TSMC’s 3nm process family. It is a performance-enhanced version. The first two generations are N3B (basic version) and N3E (cost-optimized version).

Previously, the whistleblower Digital Chat Station pointed out that the next generation of mid-range mobile phones with prices between 2,000 and 2,500 yuan include SM8845, D9400+, and D9500e, all of which have flagship-level performance. There may also be SM8750, but in the minority.

Most of these new phones have metal middle frames, a small number have ultrasonic fingerprint sensors, and all have large batteries. In fact, the core experience is close to that of flagship phones.

According to earlier rumors, SM8845 is Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, which can be seen as a downsized version of the second-generation Snapdragon 8 Extreme in terms of specifications, equipped with the same Oryon custom CPU core and N3P process.

As news has come out that the price of the second-generation Snapdragon 8 Extreme prototype will increase significantly, it is speculated that the prices of models equipped with this platform may also increase accordingly.

Therefore, Qualcomm decided to launch a product that strikes a balance between price and performance while maintaining a higher gross profit margin. It is expected that the Snapdragon 8Gen 5 mobile phone will be priced between RMB 2,000 and 2,500.

In addition to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, the starting prices of mobile phones equipped with Dimensity 9400+ and Dimensity 9500e at the same time may also be quite affordable.
