The world’s first Android phone to remove the headphone jack is not LeTV

The Weibo topic “The first mobile phone to cancel the headphone jack” was on the hot search list.

On this topic, many netizens believe that the iPhone 7 is the first smartphone to remove the headphone jack, while others believe it is the LeTV Super Phone 2 created by Jia Yueting. Both phones were released in 2016, with the LeTV Super Phone 2 released in April 2016 and the iPhone 7 released in September 2016.

But in fact,
the first Android phone to cancel the headphone jack was the HTC G1, the world’s first Android phone. It was released in 2008 and jointly launched by HTC and US operator T-Mobile, about 8 years earlier than Apple’s iPhone 7.

The HTC G1 attracted a lot of criticism at the time for removing the 3.5mm headphone jack. After the HTC G1, the OPPO Finder in 2012 and the OPPO R5 in 2014 both cancelled the 3.5mm headphone jack.

Among them, OPPO R5 was the thinnest smartphone in the world at that time, with a thickness of only 4.85mm. In order to achieve the ultimate light and thin design, OPPO R5 cancelled the 3.5mm headphone jack. If you want to listen to music, you can use a Micro adapter cable.

Although HTC was the first Android brand to remove the headphone jack, HTC has now declined in the mobile phone industry and its brand popularity is not as high as before. In comparison, Apple is considered to be an important driving force behind the removal of the headphone jack.

For manufacturers, removing the headphone jack can make the phone thinner and lighter, and the absence of a headphone jack also helps the phone to be dustproof and waterproof.
