Xiaomi is gearing up to revolutionize car safety with a new patent that aims to identify accidents and alert emergency contacts. This technology is expected to be a key feature in Xiaomi’s first electric vehicle (EV), the Modena, which is anticipated to debut by the end of the year.
The patent details a system that can detect various levels of vehicle accidents or breakdowns. It includes a storage medium and chip to store preset emergency contacts. Upon detecting an accident, the system assesses the severity and sends the relevant information to the emergency contacts.
The system distinguishes between Level 1 and Level 2 accidents, with Level 1 covering issues like battery failure and minor damages, and Level 2 involving more critical situations such as vehicle rollovers or airbag deployment. For Level 1 accidents, a text message is sent to the emergency contact, while Level 2 accidents trigger a notification message and an emergency call to the service center.
During an emergency, the system prioritizes communication with emergency services, rejecting calls from other contacts. It also sets a timer for emergency rescue, ensuring that if help does not arrive within a set period, another call is made to the emergency contact.
The inclusion of such a sophisticated accident detection and emergency alert system in the Xiaomi Modena EV reflects the brand’s commitment to vehicle safety and innovation. With features like BYD LFP and CATL Qilin batteries, and a Snapdragon 8295 processor, the Modena is poised to make a significant impact on the EV market.
