Based on clues from multiple sources, the ID design of the iPhone 17 series will undergo important changes. According to @数码闲聊站, judging from the supply chain materials, the iPhone 17 series has indeed changed to a horizontal bar camera design, and the details of the lens arrangement are temporarily missing. Many new Android phones will also change to this design next year.
Previously, media such as MR and The Information also reported that the iPhone 17 series will adopt a larger rectangular rear camera design, changing the square lens module that has been used for many years.
It is reported that the iPhone 17 series will have the following 8 significant changes:
1. Aluminum shell
It is reported that the iPhone 17 Pro series will use an aluminum frame. In comparison, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro are made of titanium, while the iPhone X to iPhone 14 Pro use stainless steel frames.
The back cover of the iPhone 17 Pro may adopt a half-aluminum, half-glass design.
2. Strip-shaped horizontal camera
In addition to the aluminum metal body, the iPhone 17 Pro’s camera module will also be made of aluminum, and compared with the appearance of the existing camera module, the iPhone 17 Pro’s camera module will be a “larger rectangular bump”, which is the horizontal bar camera we see now. 3. A19 Pro chip
The iPhone 17 Pro is expected to use Apple’s next-generation A19 Pro chip. It is reported that the new chip will use TSMC’s updated third-generation 3nm process.

4. Apple’s self-developed Wi-Fi 7 chip
There are reports that at least one iPhone 17 model will be equipped with Apple’s self-developed Wi-Fi 7 chip instead of Broadcom’s product.
5. 24-megapixel front camera
It is reported that all four iPhone 17 models will be equipped with an upgraded 24-megapixel front-facing lens , which can provide better image quality in video conferencing and video calls. Currently, all iPhone 16 models have a 12-megapixel front-facing lens.
6. 48-megapixel telephoto lens
In addition, the iPhone 17 Pro series models will use a 48-megapixel telephoto lens, which is higher than the 12-megapixel telephoto lens used in the iPhone 16 Pro.
7. 12GB RAM
Earlier rumors indicated that Apple is expected to equip the iPhone 17 Pro Max with 12GB of memory for the first time, but later news pointed out that the iPhone 17 Pro will also have the same configuration. The upgrade in memory capacity will help improve the performance of Apple Intelligence and multitasking.
All current iPhone 16 models are equipped with 8GB of memory.
8. iPhone 17 Pro Max Smart Island
