Breaking Sony’s monopoly! Guo Mingchi reveals that iPhone 18 will use Samsung sensors

analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that Apple’s iPhone 18 series will be equipped with Samsung image sensors, and Sony’s monopoly position will be broken.

It is reported that Samsung has established a special team to provide services to Apple. Starting from 2026, Samsung will ship 48-megapixel 1/2.6-inch ultra-wide-angle image sensors to Apple, breaking the long-standing situation of Sony’s exclusive supply.

Some people believe that as the number one manufacturer in the industry chain, Apple has designated nearly a thousand suppliers around the world to complete the production of parts, and the list of suppliers will change from time to time.

Apple has a very common trick in managing its supply chain, which is to assign two suppliers for each type of component. On the one hand, this allows the suppliers to check and balance each other, and on the other hand, it can get better prices.

Apple’s introduction of Samsung sensors will, on the one hand, optimize costs, and on the other hand, will have an impact on Sony’s market position.

Moreover, Samsung’s camera performance is not bad either. After all, its own Galaxy S series high-end mobile phones all use Samsung sensors, and their shooting performance is also at the first-tier level.
