China Unicom has reportedly issued a notice to support Apple’s eSIM business

According to blogger Chills Yaya, China Unicom’s headquarters has recently issued a notice to provide business support for Apple’s eSIM project.

Considering that Apple’s new model iPhone 17 Air this year completely eliminates the physical SIM card structure, China Unicom’s move is to prepare for this new phone.

In fact, starting from the iPhone 14 series, Apple officially cancelled the physical SIM card in the United States, and even blocked the card slot, and fully entered the eSIM market.

However, due to the regulations in different regions, it has not been widely popularized around the world.

This time, the iPhone 17 Air is limited by its ultra-thin body of 5.5mm, and the troublesome SIM card configuration was eliminated from the initial internal design, so it cannot be launched in regions that do not support eSIM.

eSIM, or embedded SIM card, is a technology that embeds the traditional SIM card directly into the device chip, eliminating the need for users to insert a physical SIM card, which can save a considerable amount of internal space.

However, even if the SIM card is removed, it still does not save much space for the battery of the iPhone 17 Air, which has a capacity of only more than 3,000 mAh.

The iPhone 17 Air will be equipped with a 6.6-inch OLED display that supports 120Hz ProMotion adaptive refresh rate technology to provide a smooth visual experience.

This is the first time in Apple’s history that high refresh rate has been introduced for mobile phones other than the Pro version. The daily experience is greatly improved, but the battery life may face a huge test.
