Chinese-made mobile phones are amazing! Running AAA games locally in emulation

Recently, the well-known YouTube technology channel ETA Prime
successfully ran several AAA games (Android local emulation) on the Chinese-made Red Magic 11 Legendary smartphone, including Red Dead Redemption 2, Cyberpunk 2077, and Grand Theft Auto V, with a frame rate of 50-60 FPS and a maximum power consumption of 40W under full load.

The Red Magic 11 Gold Legend is equipped with a fifth-generation Snapdragon 8 Ultra processor and 24GB of LPDDR5T RAM.
Compared to the 11 Pro, the Gold Legend version is further enhanced: it offers 24GB of RAM, 1TB UFS 4.1 Pro storage, and a more aggressive cooling design—including gold and silver plated heat sinks and an active fan. It also features a 144Hz refresh rate, Wi-Fi 7, and a large 7500mAh battery.

During testing, most games were played in high-performance mode (some locked at 60 FPS). The performance of several PC games on this device is as follows:

Red Dead Redemption 2: Average FPS close to 50, indoor settings up to 60 FPS (high texture, other settings low, FSR off)

Project CARS 2: 720p medium settings, stable 60+ FPS

Grand Theft Auto V: Indoors, nearly 100 FPS; while driving, around 60 FPS in the mid-range.

Cyberpunk 2077: 720p low quality + FSR frame generation can exceed 60 FPS; turn off frame generation to lock at 30 FPS.

However, Android emulation still has significant compatibility issues. For example, Ghost of Tsushima cannot properly enable FSR frame generation, while a certain Resident Evil game, although achieving a frame rate exceeding 60 FPS, exhibits severe visual errors.

In some games, the phone’s power consumption reaches 30-40W, which is close to the level of mainstream PC handheld consoles.
