Blogger Digital Chat Station revealed that the Honor Robot Phone will officially debut in August. As the industry’s first robot phone, the Honor Robot Phone previously made its first appearance at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
This product breaks away from the “black cube” form that has dominated smartphones for nearly two decades, deeply integrating the capabilities of mobile phones, cameras, and robots, and is regarded by the industry as a new species in the field of AI terminals.
The core innovation of Robot Phone lies in the hidden 4DoF mechanical gimbal system built into the top of the device. During daily use, the robotic arm can be completely stored inside the device, becoming an integral part of the whole; when activated, it can pop out with one click, unfolding in just 0.8 seconds, supporting 360° rotation tracking and 90° and 180° intelligent camera movement.
According to Honor CEO Li Jian, in order to fit this component into the space-constrained interior of a mobile phone, the team designed a micro motor from scratch and drew on the high-performance materials and simulation technology used in foldable screens, which ultimately helped them overcome this engineering challenge.
The gimbal features a 200-megapixel sensor and has entered into a strategic partnership with film industry giant ARRI, incorporating ARRI’s exclusive color science and cinematic texture tuning. Its image stabilization performance reaches CIPA 5.5 standard, with a 96% compensation rate for walking shake and maintaining 89% image stability while running. Its image stabilization performance in motion scenarios is significantly superior to traditional optical image stabilization solutions.
In terms of intelligent interaction, Robot Phone is equipped with the on-device large-scale model YOYO, which has emotion perception capabilities. It can recognize the direction of the sound and automatically turn the camera towards the speaker, and can also respond to users through body movements such as nodding and shaking the head via the gimbal. At the same time, it can connect with a full range of intelligent ecosystem devices, becoming a personal butler and creative partner for users.
Honor’s chief imaging engineer, Luo Wei, once said that the initial design goal of Robot Phone was very simple—to bring image stabilization and video capabilities to the industry’s top level. However, many emotional value features were later added, and in terms of basic functions, it will definitely provide users with an experience that surpasses DJI.
