Apple’s iPad mini series has dominated the small tablet market for many years. In the past two years, it has faced challenges from many new players. The Huawei MatePad mini released not long ago is the most competitive one. It has been favored by many users for its ultra-light and thin features and SIM card function.
Now Apple’s new generation competitor, iPad mini 8, is also coming. The new product will be released in the first half of next year, with the starting price remaining at US$499.
According to leaked code, the iPad Mini 8 (codenamed J510/J511) is expected to be equipped with an A19 Pro chip, which is most likely a castrated version of the same iPhone Air.
In comparison, the high-end A19 Pro used in the iPhone 17 Pro series has a 6-core CPU + 6-core GPU, while the A19 Pro GPU on the iPhone Air has one less core.
Previously, the iPad Mini 7 also adopted this strategy. Its A17 Pro is equipped with a 6-core CPU + 5-core GPU, while the A17 Pro of the iPhone 15 Pro is a 6-core GPU.
In addition to the chip, multiple rumors have revealed that the new phone will switch from an LCD screen to an OLED screen, and the size will increase from 8.3 inches to 8.7 inches, but it is still uncertain whether it will enable high refresh rate.
In terms of connectivity, it is expected that the iPad mini 8 will still be a combination of Wi-Fi version + eSIM version, and will not launch a SIM card version like the Huawei MatePad mini.
