Huawei Pocket 2 Review And Photography

In the evolving market of foldable smartphones, compact foldables have carved out their niche, thanks to their refined and foldable characteristics. Leading brands like Huawei, Samsung, OPPO, Vivo, and Moto have all introduced their iterations of compact foldable. Among these, Huawei’s Pocket series stands out for its unique approach, eschewing the trend of larger external screens for a consistent “dual-ring” design and distinctive features that add a touch of personality and uniqueness.

The latest addition to this lineup is the Huawei Pocket 2, which we had the opportunity to explore. This new model brings fresh color schemes, enhanced performance, and comprehensive camera capabilities, and incorporates some of Huawei’s latest flagship technologies. Let’s delve into the details of the Huawei Pocket 2 and see what sets it apart.

Unique Design and New Color Options

The allure of compact foldables often lies in their aesthetic appeal, and the Huawei Pocket 2 is no exception. While maintaining a similar silhouette to its predecessor, the Pocket S, the Pocket 2 introduces new colors and modifications to the camera module. Available in Tahitian Grey, Rococo White, Yam Purple, and Obsidian Black, each color option brings its charm, with Tahitian Grey standing out for its distinctive appearance. This color utilizes the same Nacre Mother of Pearl technique found in the P60 Pro’s Rococo White, mimicking the natural texture of seashells.

In addition to standard colors, the Huawei Pocket 2 also features a high-end custom color variant, created in collaboration with haute couture artists. Inspired by natural optical illusions, this version uses light and lines to create a 3D spatial effect, offering a visually striking design.

The camera Deco of the Pocket 2 continues the classic dual-ring design, with a four-lens setup (main, ultra-wide, telephoto, and ultra-spectral cameras) above and an external screen below. The seamless integration of the Deco with the body enhances the device’s visual appeal and ergonomics.

External Screen and Display Innovations

The Pocket 2’s external screen remains compact at 1.15 inches, reflecting Huawei’s unique interpretation of compact foldables. Unlike models with larger external screens, the Pocket 2 focuses on photography and basic notifications, offering a different user experience.

The internal display is the largest among compact foldables, measuring 6.94 inches with a resolution of 2690×1136 and a peak brightness of 2200 nits. Initial impressions reveal no significant creasing, maintaining a smooth touch experience.

Advanced Camera System

The Pocket 2 introduces a quad-camera setup, a first for compact foldable, including a 50MP main sensor with a large aperture for exceptional low-light performance. It also features a 3x optical zoom, a 120° ultra-wide macro lens, and supports high-quality selfies using the main camera and external screen.

Innovative Features

Huawei Pocket 2 incorporates several unique features, such as the XD Fusion Pro portrait engine for natural beauty effects and a second-generation ultra-spectral camera for UV protection detection. It also introduces a sun care reminder feature through Huawei’s AI assistant, providing daily UV updates and skincare advice.

Battery Life and Charging

Despite its compact size, the Pocket 2 boasts the largest battery capacity among foldables at 4520mAh, supporting 66W wired and 40W wireless supercharging. This ensures fast charging and competitive battery life.

Performance and Connectivity

Powered by the Kirin 9000S chip, the Pocket 2 delivers sufficient performance for daily tasks. It also features dual-directional Beidou satellite messaging, enhancing communication capabilities in remote areas.

Durability and Protection

The Pocket 2’s innovative hinge design and high-strength materials increase reliability and durability. It also offers high-level water resistance, making it one of the most protected compact foldables available.

The Huawei Pocket 2 stands out in the compact foldable market with its stylish design, comprehensive imaging capabilities, and durability. Its unique features, such as dual-directional satellite messaging and advanced battery technology, set it apart from competitors, making it a compelling choice for those interested in compact foldables.
