Huawei’s new tri-fold folding camera has been redesigned: from a folding S-shape to a wraparound G-shape.

Blogger Dingjiao Digital hinted that Huawei’s new generation of tri-fold screen Mate XT2 Extraordinary Master will make significant adjustments to the classic folding form that has been used for many years.

As we all know, the previous Mate XT series has always used a highly recognizable S-shaped folding design, with a structure of one screen folding outward and two screens folding inward. When fully closed, the shape is similar to a traditional folding board. The core advantage of this solution is that it can control the thickness and weight of the whole device to be thinner and lighter, and there will be no obvious feeling of heaviness when holding it with one hand for a long time.

This time, Huawei’s new tri-fold phone adopts a G-shaped double inward folding design, which is consistent with the design logic of Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold. Both screens are folded inward to wrap around the main screen, and all flexible screen areas are hidden inside the body. This greatly improves the phone’s drop and scratch resistance during daily use.

The G-shaped folding structure naturally comes with a separate external small screen, allowing users to perform frequent daily operations such as making calls, replying to messages, and watching short videos without fully unfolding the large screen.

This also means that Huawei will recalibrate the new hinge structure, and the thickness and weight of the device will be further optimized on the existing basis. The upcoming HarmonyOS 7 system will also be specifically adapted to the exclusive logic of independent dual-screen interaction.

In addition, the Huawei Mate XT2 will also be equipped with the latest flagship chip this year, which is expected to be the Kirin 9050 Pro, which has been rumored many times before. Its computing power and energy efficiency are significantly upgraded compared to the previous generation chip.

With the new Kirin flagship chip and the deeply optimized HarmonyOS working together, the overall smoothness of the device in daily use, multitasking capabilities, and user experience in scenarios such as split-screen and cross-screen interaction when the large screen is unfolded are expected to be further improved.
