iPhone 17 series will be the first to launch Apple’s self-developed Wi-Fi 7 chip

Supply chain analyst Jeff Pu revealed that all four models of the iPhone 17 series will be the first to be equipped with Apple’s self-developed Wi-Fi 7 chip.

Jeff Pu said that Apple’s Wi-Fi 7 chip design was finalized as early as the first half of 2024 , and he expects the chip to be first used in the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max later this year.

Well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has previously mentioned that Apple plans to use self-developed Wi-Fi chips in this year’s iPhone 17 series to replace supplier Broadcom.

Public reports show that Apple’s preference for self-developed chips and reducing external procurement costs has long been a practice. Historically, Apple’s self-developed chips are not uncommon. The A series used for mobile phone computing and the M series used for computer product computing have been iterating for many years; in terms of auxiliary capabilities, the main wireless connections are the W and H series, the S series is used for wearable products, and the Vision Pro’s spatial computing chip R1.

Apple’s choice to develop its own chips is undoubtedly bad news for Broadcom. Apple contributed approximately 20% of Broadcom’s operating income in fiscal years 2022 and 2023. With the arrival of self-developed chips, Broadcom’s revenue will be affected.
